Meet Bert

Coming from a management background where the ability to quickly understand figures and their implications is a necessity; Bert quickly realised that not everyone thinks like he does. Financial wisdom is learned, and there is often a gap between those giving and those receiving advice. 

When it comes to decision-making, particularly personal finance, he identified the need for no-nonsense, accurate information to support those who need it most.

Since then, Bert has founded several ventures focused on supporting the informational journey towards financial autonomy in the UK.

Bert’s Experience

In his long professional career, Bert has worked with multinational companies and governments, consulting on various financial and logistical projects in Africa, Europe and Asia.

Most notably he was recognised for his contributions to:

• TMEA Logistics Innovation for Trade Fund (LIFT) as an business and finance expert for Nathan Inc in Kenya, Uganda, Burundi, Rwanda and Tanzania (on behalf of UK DFID)
• Grindrod Logistics as a financing and asset audit specialist in Southern Africa
• GIZ as Team Leader with specialist business financial acumen, tasked with developing a  Fleet Management System and Asset Management Policy for the Government of Malawi (on behalf of the German Government)
• The Samsun Logistics Centre (SLC) funded by the EU in Samsun Turkey as a business financial planning expert (on behalf of the EU)
• The establishment of CFS facilities for Damco, Djibouti (on behalf of the AP Moller Maersk Group) as both a financial and logistics executive.
• A project initiated by the Investment Board of Nepal as a financial feasibility specialist (on behalf of UK DFID)

In the last ten years, Bert broadened his focus to include personal finance in the UK, which led to him founding SovereignBoss.

As someone with a good grasp of financial concepts in a corporate environment, he found himself needing to make difficult financial decisions in his personal life, but lacking the necessary tools.

In the process, he has continued his personal finance learning journey through on-the-job experience at SovereignBoss under the expert tutelage of our team of writers and editors.

Originally from the Netherlands, Bert has an unnatural fondness for the colour orange, and a deep appreciation for cooler weather.

When he is not in the office, you can find him mountain biking, reading The Economist or being chased around by his grandchildren.
