We've summed up the most important information about the topic in this quick video.
An equity release mortgage is, in a nutshell, a loan plus interest that is paid back to the lender when the homeowner passes away or goes into permanent care. The homeowner’s family usually pays back the cash released, and the interest incurred, from the sale of the home in question.
Equity release is available for individuals or couples over 55, with the youngest homeowner’s age determining the amount of equity that can be released. It is important to note that some equity release schemes may require the homeowner to be 60 or older.

Bristol1 is a city straddling the River Avon in the southwest of England with a prosperous maritime history. Its former city-centre port is now a cultural hub, the Harbourside, where the M Shed museum explores local social and industrial heritage. The harbour’s 19th-century warehouses now contain restaurants, shops and cultural institutions such as contemporary art gallery The Arnolfini.
Bristol City, a large city in the southwest of England (UK), is popular for its cultural and economic development. It sits on the River Avon with a population of around 425,600 inhabitants and an area of 135km² (53sq mi), Bristol’s urban and metropolitan area has a population density of about 1165 people per km² making it England’s most densely populated large city outside London. This makes as one of the 20 largest cities in England and a total of 99% percent speak English as their first language.
The city has ready access to motorways, including an east-west A38 which links up with the M32 and ultimately to London; it is also served by a north-south running M48 linking Bristol’s Eastern suburbs of Bedminster and Southmead to Bath in one direction and Cardiff via Newport in Wales in the other. The Portway connects southwards towards Exeter while there are two bridges linking westward across the River Avon: a dual carriageway that crosses Clifton Down on its western side before traversing through Castle Park where traffic lights control movement into and out of central Bristol’s CBD (Central Business District) or another single-lane suspension bridge near Westbury on its eastern reaches.
Bristol has a temperate maritime climate with mild weather year-round, due to its southern location on the coastline as well as protection from high-reaching mountains – Mendip Hills and Avon Wheatlands – which act as natural barriers against strong winds and inclement weather from Europe (prevailing westerlies). Summers are usually warm though seldom hot; winters are mild and rainy, with occasional frost (the average annual temperature is 11.0 °C).
